OUR FIRST ROAD TRIP OF 2011 WAS TO EUREKA SPRINGS, ARKANSAS
We headed south on I-75 in Ohio to I-70 west and on to Ephingham, Illinois where we spent the first nite. Naturally we we stayed in a motel. As I've said before, camping is no longer an option. We enjoy the luxury of a cool room, a hot shower, and comfortable bed after 6 hours on the road.
From Illinois I-70 we made our way to I-55 where we crossed the Mississippi River into Missouri just above Cairo, Illinois. The bridge to Arkansas out of Cairo was closed and would not re-open until January 2012.
After a total of 6 hours on the road that 2nd day we found ourselves in Pocohontas, Arkansas. Once again we found ourselves to be in a dry county. It seems to happen quite often when we travel any southerly direction.
From Pocohontas we headed west on Rte 412. What a great ride it was on our way to Eureka Springs. We could have made EU that 3rd day but we decidcd to do a bit of exploring and eventually spent the 3rd night in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
We arrived at Ironhorse Lodge in Eureka Springs on Wed. June 1st. It had been 4 days since we left home in Ohio and it was absolutely a great ride.
The folks were darn nice at the lodge and the cabin was just perfect for the two of us.
We spent a good part of our time just riding around NW Arkansas. We also spent a day riding to Branson , Missouri f to catch a show. Grabbed a motel room, walked to the bar, got a bit hammered, back to the motel for a nap (we old folks need those ya know), and then caught a pretty cool show with some very talented musicians, and then back to the bar for an hour or two before crashing.. We ferried across the Missouri on our way to Branson. That was just darmn cool.
Enjoy some of the pics of downtown Eureka Springs.
